Husband-Wife, Medics Save Hundreds of Lives in Afghanistan
Air Force Tech. Sgt. Tyler Szymanski, a 366th Surgical Operations Squadron medical technician, deployed with a Special Forces Operational Detachment Alpha in Kanduz Province, Afghanistan, practices firing one of his many service weapons at a forward operating base in northern Afghanistan. Szymanski, a Eugene, Ore., native, frequently found himself embedded with small, 8-10 man, Special Forces teams, and would insert onto a battlefield a few days ahead of infantry units to set up a forward surgical team on location.
