Dutch parliament delegation experiences AFSOUTH community relations program

Members of the Dutch parliament, the U.S. Forward Operating Location and the U.S. Consulate General pose for a group photo in front of the Fundashon Sentro di Dama or SEDA building during a USFOL community relations program immersion visit, Jan. 5, 2015. AFSOUTH volunteers help celebrate local holiday

Children from the Fuik Children’s Center embrace a volunteer from the U.S. Forward Operation Location during their annual Sinterklaas Celebration Dec. 4, 2014. Eight volunteers from the USFOL visited the children and staff of the center, which provides a safe after-school environment for children, to decorate and assist with face painting. Sinterklaas is an annual celebration held the day before Saint Nicholas Day and includes gift giving and a visit from Saint Nicholas. Participating in activities such as these demonstrates the USFOL team’s desire for community involvement and their gratitude for the hospitality they receive from the citizens of Curacao. AFSOUTH volunteers revitalize Encilia Halfway House

Volunteers from the U.S. Forward Operating Location paint the exterior of the Encilia Halfway House during a visit Dec. 2, 2014. Eight volunteers from the USFOL spent three hours painting and cleaning the facility, which provides a safe, temporary environment for children in transition who are struggling with a variety of social and behavioral challenges. Volunteers also spent time interacting with Encilia children and staff. Volunteers donate time, talents to the Siloam Orphanage

Several volunteers from the U.S. Forward Operating Location paint playground equipment at the Siloam Orphanage, Nov. 20, 2014. Fourteen volunteers delivered 200 lbs. of donated clothing and toys to the orphanage, before assisting with various tasks, including rehabilitating playground equipment and laying conduit for electrical cables. Siloam Orphanage provides for children with a variety of needs, from toddlers who have been abandoned to children who have mental and physical disabilities. USFOL members participate in activities such as these to demonstrate their eagerness for community involvement and their long-standing appreciation for the hospitality they receive from the citizens of Curacao.
