Medical units team up again for Francisco Morazan MEDRETE

A 27-person team from Joint Task Force-Bravo will partner with the Honduran Ministry of Health, the Mission Honduras LeMars (a non-governmental organization), the South Dakota State University medical team and the Honduran military to provide medical care Mar. 7-10 in La Ceiba and San Juan in the department of Francisco Morazan.

During the medical readiness and training exercise, medical professionals will treat illnesses including respiratory infections, skin infections, pneumonia, tuberculosis, diabetes and high blood pressure.

Additionally, the SDSU medical team will study pediatric nutritional in homes within the surrounding areas of the MEDRETE sites.

The professional exchange between U.S. and Honduran doctors and nurses will allow improved patient treatment and enhance the U.S., Honduran partnership.

In 2011, JTF-Bravo and Honduran Ministry of Health clinicians provided general medical care to 14,401 patients and dental care to 1,061 patients for a total of 15,462 local Hondurans receiving much-needed assistance.
