New Joint Security Forces commander takes charge

SOTO CANO AIR BASE, Honduras --  The Joint Security Forces here held its change of command ceremony June 14, the second of five major supporting command leadership changes this month.

Maj. John Swift took over leadership from Maj. Shaun Salyers during the ceremony at the Soto Cano Air Base fire station.

Major Swift arrived from Scott Air Force Base, Ill., where he served as Training Branch and Force Protection Inspections chief in the Office of the Inspector General, Headquarters Air Mobility Command.

"It is an honor to take command of the JSF here," said Major Swift. "Nothing provides challenges and opportunities like a command position. I hope to improve on the already outstanding standards, programs and partnerships that exist here."

Major Swift received his commission through the University of Oklahoma AFROTC program. He earned his bachelor's degree in Law Enforcement Administration and a master's degree in Public Administration.

Major Swift's awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal and the Air Force Achievement Medal.

Major Salyers departs Soto Cano AB and is being assigned as team chief of Vulnerability Assessments at the Air Force Security Forces Center at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.

JSF provides law enforcement, security and force protection in support of JTF-Bravo personnel, facilities, equipment and resources at Soto Cano Air Base. They maintain liaison with U.S. government and host nation law enforcement agencies. JSF provides force protection support for medical readiness exercises, counter-drug, civil assistance, and humanitarian operations throughout the area of responsibility as directed by the JTF-Bravo commander.

The unit consists of approximately 20 Air Force Security Forces personnel serving one-year unaccompanied tours and approximately 30 temporary duty personnel. The Air Force, Army and Marine Corps rotate responsibility for filling the TDY team. The unit maintains both explosive and drug detection military working dog teams.
