Husband-Wife, Medics Save Hundreds of Lives in Afghanistan
Air Force Tech. Sgt. Tyler Szymanski, a 366th Surgical Operations Squadron medical technician, deployed with a Special Forces Operational Detachment Alpha in Kanduz Province, Afghanistan, lands at a remote northern Afghanistan valley to set up a forward surgical team. Szymanski, a Eugene, Ore., native, frequently found himself embedded with small, 8-10 man, Special Forces teams, and would insert onto a battlefield and set up an FST out in a field, utilize uninhabited mud huts, or whatever he needed to ensure his Special Forces team had medical care available on location.
