1st BCD returns to Davis-Monthan after 365 day deployment Published Sept. 30, 2010 By Tech. Sgt. Eric Petosky 12th Air Force (Air Forces Southern) Public Affairs DAVIS-MONTHAN AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. -- The last of more than 30 soldiers assigned to the 1st Battlefield Coordination Detachment were welcomed home by friends and family Sept. 14 after spending a year deployed to Southwest Asia. "It is great to be back in the United States and back with my family here in Tucson," said Col. Gary Hisle, 1st BCD commander. "We had a warm welcome from 12 AF (AFSOUTH), the 612th Combined Air Operations Center, 355th Fighter Wing and 1st BCD Rear Detachment. Thanks for a great welcome home celebration at Davis Monthan." Spouses, children, coworkers and friends held aloft homemade "Welcome Home" signs, and waited for the soldiers to disembark the bus to greet them. Officer and enlisted leaders stood by to shake hands and congratulate the soldiers on a job well done. Even local Tucson television and newspaper reporters captured the homecoming. The 1st BCD is an Army unit attached to the 612th CAOC here. Colonel Hisle and the 1st BCD deployed in September 2009 to U.S. Central Command's area of responsibility. The soldiers served as liaison between the Army Central Commander, U.S. Forces Iraq Commander, International Security Forces Afghanistan Joint Commander and the U.S. Air Force Central Commander to integrate and coordinate air and ground operations while deployed to Southwest Asia. This is the second deployment for the unit since 2006.
