New Horizons - Peru 2008
Juan Carbajal, a 17-year-old from Quinua, Peru, wears his usual beanie over his right eye covering the severe injuries he sustained from an assault three years ago. Shannon Curry Westgaard, a member of the Peruvian American Medical Society, with the help of Shriners of North America and volunteers across the U.S., has helped Juan get the reconstructive surgery needed for a new face. Members of Task Force New Horizons helped locate Juan during a medical mission supporting New Horizons - Peru 2008, a U.S. and Peruvian humanitarian effort to bring relief to underpriviliged Peruvians.
