A B-1B Lancer from the Air Force’s 9th Bomb Squadron, out of Dyess Air Force Base, takes off at Naval Air Station Key West’s Boca Chica Field Aug. 23, 2016, in support of Joint Interagency Task Force-South’s mission of detection and monitoring of illicit trafficking. U.S. Air Forces Southern increased its support to JIATF South over the past week to include KC-135s, KC-10s, HC-130s, DH-8s, B-1Bs, B-52Hs, E-8C JSTARS, RQ-4, as well as space and cyber capabilities to demonstrate multi-domain operations. Multi-domain operations involve integrating the vastness of tactical air, search & rescue, ISR, cyber, airborne command & control and space capabilities to provide a complete picture to a joint or combined command. Activities such as this provide valuable command and control training in real-world operations. The aircrews gain valuable experience integrating with intelligence agencies, law enforcement agencies, partner Nations, U.S. Navy and Customs and Border Protection P-3s, U.S. Coast Guard vessels, joint headquarters such as JIATF-South, and other regional assets.
