Navy Seabees bring clinics to New Horizons Peru
U.S. Navy Builder 2nd Class Christopher Benton and Construction Electrician 2nd Class Tyler Sieg lay the final block for the construction of a medical clinic in Independencia, Peru, June 20, 2012. In two weeks, Benton mixed every bag of mortar that was used in the project, totaling 26,000 pounds. Nearly 20 U.S. Sailors from the Naval Mobile Construction Unit 23 are deployed to Peru participating in the construction project as part of New Horizons, an annual U.S. Southern Command-sponsored joint and combined humanitarian assistance and training exercise that takes place in Latin American and Caribbean countries.
