Riverine Project
PUERTO AMERICA, Peru -- A young Peruvian girl suffering from a severe infection and the beginning stages of necrosis caused by a snake bite waits to be treated by Air Force medics. The girl was administered antibiotics and transported by boat to a clinic in San Lorenzo three hours away where she recovered. A team of 15 Air Force doctors and technicians, along with more than 50 Peruvian Navy, Ministry of Health, and civilian practitioners, treated patients in the remote region for two weeks as part of the ongoing Riverine Project, a three year humanitarian medical project sponsored by Twelfth Air Force (Air Forces Southern).
