Airmen, Chilean school 'partner' to teach children aviation
Maj. Mark Jones, operations officer for the U.S. Military Group in Chile, tests his model airplane Oct. 27 during a community outreach program at the Complejo Educacional Esperanza School in Santiago, Chile. Major Jones volunteered alongside members of Air Forces Southern, Chilean air force, the U.S. Embassy, and civilian volunteers from a U.S. based technology firm. Agilent Technologies donated dozens of afterschool activities including the model aircraft to demonstrate the practical applications of science during planned community outreach events. The volunteer opportunity marked the beginning of Operation Southern Partner, an all-new program featuring more than 70 U.S. Air Force subject matter experts from about 25 career fields working alongside partner nation military members in similar career specialties during week-long exchanges.
