Students glean medical knowledge from NEW HORIZONS personnel
U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Moises Ascencion-Gudino, 673rd Medical Group public health technician, and Staff Sgt. Victor Kipping Cordoba, 355th Aeromedical Squadron public health technician, speak to Froylan Turcios Industrial Technical Institute students about malaria, chikungunya and other prevalent mosquito transmitted diseases throughout Honduras at their school in Tocoa, Honduras, June 23, 2015. The class was organized by the Tocoa-based vector-borne disease surveillance team and is part of the NEW HORIZONS Honduras 2015 training exercise. NEW HORIZONS was launched in the 1980s and is an annual joint humanitarian assistance exercise that U.S. Southern Command conducts with a partner nation in Central America, South America or the Caribbean. The exercise improves joint training readiness of U.S. and partner nation civil engineers, medical professionals and support personnel through humanitarian assistance activities.
