NEW HORIZONS personnel volunteer at naval base
Children from the surrounding communities arrive at Puerto Castillo Naval Base in Trujillo, Honduras, June 6, 2015, to participate in the Guardians of the Fatherland event. Guardians goes twice and year and includes about 200 children per session. Each session lasts about 6 months, every Saturday and includes classes on civic values, military values, spiritual values and human rights. More than 20 NEW HORIZONS Honduras 2015 personnel volunteered to participate in the event. NEW HORIZONS was launched in the 1980s and is an annual joint humanitarian assistance exercise that U.S. Southern Command conducts with a partner nation in Central America, South America or the Caribbean. The exercise improves joint training readiness of U.S. and partner nation civil engineers, medical professionals and support personnel through humanitarian assistance activities.
