Marking 75 Years of 12th Air Force: Post-Cold War thru Today
Twelfth Air Force was reassigned to Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Ariz., awaiting the closure of Bergstrom AFB. The move became official on Oct 1, 1992 with most of the organization physically moving during the following year. The organization received its only designation change in its 75 years becoming the Twelfth Air Force (Air Forces Southern) Feb 29, 2008. The new designation highlighted the Numbered Air Force’s long standing mission as the air component to U.S. Southern Command. (U.S. Air Force photo illustration by Tech. Sgt. Heather Redman)
